SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS

Fearless is dedicated to helping theater artists bring their ideas to life on the stage. We provide both opportunities and support for new and experienced writers alike to develop their ideas. We offer different ways for writers to share their scripts, get feedback, and present their works to audiences.

We believe that theater-making is collaborative, where each artist – and even the audience – contributes something different to help bring a playwright’s vision to life. By providing an iterative process, safe spaces and structures, and supportive and constructive feedback, we help artists shape their ideas into fully-realized, high-quality stories for the stage.

Script Submission Opportunities

We offer opportunities each year to submit scripts for full-length and short plays for development, readings, and production through our In Development reading series and Fearless Five, our annual showcase of original short plays around a common theme, which is different each year. We may offer additional calls for scripts or commission scripts as needed.

In Development

In Development is our reading series, during which full-length scripts are workshopped and then presented to audiences. Calls for scripts will take place in early summer and early winter. If you have a full-length script you would like to submit for this series, you can read more information here.

Fearless Five

Fearless Five is our annual showcase of new short plays, all around a common theme, written, directed, and performed by local artists. The call for scripts takes place in late fall for production in late February. If you are interested in writing a play for Fearless Five, look for our next call for scripts here.

Our Script Development Process

To help artists develop their ideas, Fearless uses a three-step script development process for all new works:

  1. Our Brain Trust reviews all submissions and provides supportive, constructive feedback to playwrights whose scripts are selected for development or production.
  2. After playwrights incorporate feedback from the Brain Trust, the director will review the script and partner with the playwright to incorporate their own feedback.
  3. Once another draft is ready, the director and playwright will workshop the script with actors, helping to further flesh out the characters and storyline.

Any artist submitting a play for a reading or performance should be comfortable participating in this process.
